GAIL CREEK. Gail (Gayle) Creek rises just east of Crockett in central Houston County (at 31°18' N, 95°27' W) and runs southeast for fourteen miles to its mouth on White Rock Creek, four miles east of Lovelady (at 31°07' N, 95°23' W). The stream was named for Richard W. Gayle, who moved to Texas in 1848 and who from 1854 to his death in 1866 lived on a farm on the creek. The stream, which is intermittent in its upper reaches, traverses flat terrain surfaced by clayey and sandy loam soils that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and grasses.
