GRANITE MOUNTAIN. Granite Mountain is two miles northwest of Marble Falls in southwestern Burnet County (at 30°35' N, 98°18' W). The pink granite dome covers roughly 180 acres and rises 969 feet above sea level, more than 100 feet above the surrounding countryside. It is the site of the largest quarry of its kind in the United States; stone from the quarry has been used to build the Galveston seawall, the state Capitol, and various state office buildings in Austin.
