HOUSTON FORWARD TIMES. The Houston Forward Times, a weekly black newspaper, was first published in 1960 by Julius Carter. It was subsequently owned and operated by Lenora Carter after her husband's death in 1971. It was published after 1977 by the Forward Times Publishing Company and remains one of few black newspapers in the country printing its own publication. In the 1990s Lenora Carter continued to edit and publish the newspaper, which had a circulation of 17,970. The firm also publishes the University of Houston's Daily Cougar and other publications.
