HALSELL, J. GLENN (1845-1886). J. Glenn Halsell, cattleman and banker, the son of Electious and E. J. (Mays) Halsell, was born in Alabama on May 15, 1845. He moved to Texas probably soon after the Civil Warqv and began his association with the cattle industry in the employ of Daniel Waggonerqv in Wise County. Gradually Halsell accumulated land and stock of his own and eventually became one of the foremost cattle raisers of the area. He was interested also in banking and was for a time president and principal stockholder of the First National Bank of Decatur. He married Julia F. Earhart on November 15, 1866; they had five children. In an attempt to recover his health, Halsell went to Riverside, California, where he died on March 16, 1886. He was buried in Decatur, Texas.
