HAYS, JOHN M. (1814-1836). John M. Hays, Alamo defender, was born in 1814 and moved to Texas from Nashville, Tennessee. He joined Capt. John Chenoweth's company on January 14, 1836. He ran unsuccessfully for one of the two positions for delegates to the Texas convention representing the garrison at Bexar. Hays died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836.
