HERTZ, HYMAN (ca. 1808-1833). Hyman Hertz, early Jewish merchant and delegate to the Convention of 1832,qv was born in Hannover, Germany, around 1808. On December 18, 1829, Hertz and his brother Joseph Hertzqv arrived in Nacogdoches. Hyman Hertz, who was twenty-one and single, established a mercantile business. He represented Nacogdoches at the Convention of 1832 and was killed the next year when the steamer, Lioness, on which he was traveling to New Orleans, caught fire and sank on the Red River.
