HOPKINS, DAVID (1825-1906). David Hopkins, early settler of Hopkins County, was born in Indiana on August 9, 1825. In 1840 he was taken to Texas by his parents, who settled on land now in Lamar County. Around 1843 the family moved to what is now Hopkins County, where David Hopkins married Anne Hargrave in 1846. The couple had five children. Hopkins County, established in 1846, was named for the family. Hopkins died on March 6, 1906, and was buried in the Sulphur Bluff Cemetery.
