HIGHLAND VILLAGE, TEXAS. Highland Village, located near Interstate 35E and Farm Road 407, is about ten miles southeast of Denton and twenty miles northwest of Dallas in southern Denton County. This community on Lewisville Lakeqv incorporated in the early 1960s. As a suburb of the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex, Highland Village quickly increased from 516 residents in 1970 to 3,246 residents in 1980. That figure continued to rise to 7,027 in 1990 and 12,173 in 2000. Highland Village has a mayor and city council and furnishes a variety of municipal services including police and fire services and garbage collection. Three elementary schools and one middle school are located within the city limits. By 2004 the primarily upscale residential community actively recruited businesses to expand retail development in the area.
