HILLCREST, TEXAS. Hillcrest is on State Highway 71 five miles northwest of Columbus in northwestern Colorado County. According to some sources, it was named for the low hill in its vicinity. Hillcrest had three businesses, a church, two schools, a cemetery, and scattered dwellings in 1940. In 1970 the community was the site of a gas station, a store, a motel, and a few residences. Between 1988 and 2000 the population of Hillcrest was estimated at twenty-five.
