HOWARD, TEXAS (Eastland County). Howard, near Desdemona in southeastern Eastland County, was named for B. Howard, an early settler. Its site was settled before 1877. In 1880, at the height of the community's growth, it reported two stores, a church, a school, and a population of 250. After the railroad bypassed Howard, its population moved to Desdemona, and the Howard site was abandoned. Howard was named on the 1983 county highway map, which showed a cemetery at the site.
