HACKBERRY CREEK (Uvalde County). Hackberry Creek rises six miles southwest of Utopia in northeastern Uvalde County (at 29°30' N, 99°38' W) and runs south for nine miles to its mouth on Blanco Creek, a mile southeast of the intersection of Farm roads 127 and 1049 and eight miles north of Knippa (at 29°24' N, 99°36' W). The terrain near the creek's headwaters is flat with locally deep and dense dissection. The land surface in this area consists of exposed limestone bedrock with shallow to very shallow gravelly, loamy, and clayey soils that support oak, juniper, grasses, and some mesquite. The lower section of the creek runs through flat terrain with locally shallow depressions, surfaced by deep loamy and clayey soils that support water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and various grasses.
