HACKBERRY BRANCH.
Hackberry Branch, formerly known as Huckleberry Creek, rises three
miles north of Newton in north central Newton County (at 30°53'
N, 93°45' W) and runs southeast for four miles to its mouth
on Threemile Branch, two miles east of Newton (at 30°51'
N, 93°43' W). It was officially named by the Geographic Names
Information System in 1961. The stream, which is intermittent
in its upper reaches, passes through a woody region in which loblolly,
longleaf, shortleaf, and slash pines are predominant.
