HELL'S HALF ACRE. Hell's Half Acre is an area of rough elevations located seventeen miles southeast of Marathon in northeastern Brewster County (centered at 30°02' N, 103°00' W). From San Francisco Creek on the west, Hell's Half Acre extends five miles eastward to Rough and Maxon creeks. The highest peak in Hell's Half Acre has an elevation of 4,475 feet above sea level, rising some 935 feet above San Francisco Creek, two miles west. Soils in the area are shallow, stony clay and sandy loams and support oak, mesquite, and grasses.
