IKIN, ARTHUR (?-?). Arthur Ikin, diplomat and author, a native of Great Britain, delivered to the Texas government in January 1841 two commercial treaties negotiated between Texas and Great Britain and one treaty between Texas and the Netherlands. Ikin was appointed consul at London for the Republic of Texasqv on February 4, 1841, and held the position until January 15, 1842. In England he published Texas: Its History, Topography, Agriculture, Commerce, and General Statistics (1841), which he designed for the use of British merchants and as a guide for emigrants.
