IRIGOYEN, JOSÉ (?-?). José Irigoyen was appointed Spanish governor of Texas but never arrived to claim his office. On August 5, 1797, Pedro de Nava told Manuel Muñozqqv of the appointment and instructed Muñoz to deliver the company and archives of Bexar to the new governor when he should arrive from Spain. In August 1799, after Muñoz's death, Nava appointed Juan Bautista de Elguézabalqv as governor ad interim until Irigoyen's arrival; Elguézabal served as governor until his death in 1805. The Bexar Archivesqv do not reveal why Irigoyen failed to assume his office.
