IUKA, TEXAS (Atascosa County). Iuka is a rural community ten miles west of Poteet in northwestern Atascosa County. It served intermittently from 1886 to 1908 as the post office for the Sand Branch settlement. No population figures are available for Iuka. In the 1940s the town had a few scattered dwellings and some gravel pits. The number of dwellings has since decreased, but highway maps still recorded its location in the late 1980s.
