JACKSON, THOMAS (?-1836). Thomas Jackson, Alamo defender, was born in Ireland. He settled in 1831 in Texas, where he registered for land in DeWitt's colony^qv on May 1. Jackson married Louise Cottle and was the father of four children. At the outbreak of the Texas Revolution^qv he was one of the "Old Eighteen,"^qv the original defenders of the Gonzales cannon in the battle of Gonzales.^qv He entered the Alamo with the relief force from Gonzales on March 1, 1836. Jackson died in the battle of the Alamo^qv on March 6, 1836.
