JENNINGS, GORDON C. (1780-1836). Gordon C. Jennings, Alamo defender, son of Joseph and Ruth (Cartwright) Jennings, was born in Windom, Connecticut, in 1780. He married Catherine Cynthia Overton, and they had two sons and two daughters. Jennings, a farmer, immigrated to Texas from Missouri in 1835. He took part in the siege of Bexar as a corporal in Capt. William R. Carey's artillery company. Jennings was the Alamo's oldest defender at age fifty-six. He died in the battle of the Alamo on March 6, 1836. His brother, Charles B. Jennings, died in the Goliad Massacre.
