JACKSON CREEK (Washington County). Jackson Creek rises four miles east of Independence in northern Washington County (at 30°18' N, 96°18' W) and runs southeast for fourteen miles to its mouth on Red Gully Creek, near the Goodwill school (at 30°11' N, 96°12' W). It traverses level terrain surfaced by clay soils that support post oaks and grasslands. It was probably named for I. Jackson, who in 1831 received a land grant near its origin.
