JABONCILLOS CREEK (Duval County). Jaboncillos Creek rises south of Benavides in south central Duval County (at 27°34' N, 98°27' W) and runs southeast for fifty miles, through the southern part of Jim Wells County, into an arm of Baffins Bay called Cayo del Grullo near Yeary oilfield in western Kleberg County (at 27°23' N, 97°43' W). It crosses flat to gently sloping terrain surfaced by clay and sandy loam that supports water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, scrub brush, and grasses. The name is Spanish for "soapstone." The stream crosses the southern part of the land granted by Spain to Antonio Ramirez and named Los Jaboncillos.
