JONES CREEK (Milam County). Jones Creek rises eleven miles northeast of Cameron in northern Milam County (at 30°58' N, 96°51' W) and runs south for three miles to its mouth on Harl Creek, ten miles northwest of Cameron (at 30°57' N, 96°51' W). The rolling prairie is surfaced by clay loam that supports mesquite and grasses. The creek was named for Joseph P. Jones, who settled in the area in 1834.
