JACKSON LAKE. Jackson Lake is on Long Branch in the lower Brazos River basin two miles southwest of Golinda in northwestern Falls County (at 31°20' N, 97°05' W). The Vilbig Construction Company completed the dam in 1965 for the McLennan County Soil Conservation District for flood control purposes. The earthfill dam is 3,200 feet long and 43 feet high; its uncontrolled spillway is 400 feet wide. Although the lake has a normal capacity of slightly more than 600 acre-feet, it has a flood capacity of 3,646 acre-feet and a maximum discharge of 9,520 cubic feet per second. The lake is used for recreation as well as for flood control.
