KEMP, WYNDHAM (1845-1909). Wyndham Kemp, politician and judge, was born in Gloucester County, Virginia, on January 30, 1845, to Judge Wyndham and Ann Louisa (Perrin) Kemp. He attended schools in Virginia and then the Virginia Military Institute. He was initially part of Wise's Brigade, Twenty-sixth Virginia regiment in the Civil War.^qv He then joined the Richmond Howitzer's Second Company, a position he held until being captured on April 6, 1865. Wyndham studied law under his father until his admittance to the Virginia bar in 1867. He moved to Galveston that year and was admitted to the Texas bar in 1869. He resided in Calvert for a time, until he settled in El Paso in 1885, when he joined Capt. Thomas J. Beall^qv there in the firm of Beall, Davis, and Kemp. When Davis died in 1897, the name of the firm became Beall and Kemp. Kemp served on the county bench and as subdistrict judge in El Paso. He married Mary Lewis Maury, who died in El Paso. The couple had two children. Kemp later married Mary S. Herndon, and they had four children. He died on July 7, 1909, in El Paso.
