LUGPLAPIAGULAM INDIANS. In the middle eighteenth century the Lugplapiagulam (Hueplapiagulam) Indians, whose name is said to mean "ground chili pepper," lived along the lower Rio Grande in the area between present Rio Grande City and the mouth of the river. The maps of Jiménez Moreno and G. Saldivar place this group in the area of present Zapata County, but the available records do not specify any particular locality.
