LANN, JAMES W. (?-?). James W. Lann, early legislator and official, moved to Texas sometime before July 4, 1839, and was elected president of the Matagorda Chamber of Commerce on November 12, 1839. He was an attorney and was director of the Colorado Navigation Company in 1840. From November 2, 1840, to February 5, 1841, he represented his county in the House of the Fifth Congress (see CONGRESS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS). He was elected county commissioner of Wharton County on August 5, 1850. The last known record of Lann was dated November 5, 1853, when he received money from the state due him for military service at the time of the Rafael Vásquez and Adrián Wollqqv invasions of 1842.
