LAROCHE, DANIEL CONSTANT III (1877-1949). Daniel Constant LaRoche III, entrepreneur and politician, son of Daniel Constant LaRoche II, was born at Point Isabel, Texas, on January 11, 1877. He broke the family's seagoing tradition and devoted himself to local transportation, tourism, and politics. He and two brothers, William and Frank, established a ferry line between Port Isabel and Padre Islandqv and promoted the southern tip of the island for recreation. LaRoche participated in exploratory plans for a ferry, causeway, and road complex along Padre Island from the Corpus Christi end to Port Isabel. He was a county commissioner of Cameron County for four terms and served on the county court that initiated highway construction. He died at Brownsville on November 11, 1949, and was buried in the old cemetery at Port Isabel, not far from his father and grandfather.
