LEWIS, SAMUEL K. (?-1867). Samuel K. Lewis, legislator, was married when he moved to Texas in November 1838. On July 6, 1841, he was issued an unconditional certificate for land in Brazoria County, and by 1842 he was living in or near La Grange, Fayette County. On November 25, 1842, he furnished some provisions for the Army of the Republic of Texas.^qv He represented Austin County in the House of Representatives of the Ninth Congress (1844-45; see CONGRESS OF THE REPUBLIC OF TEXAS). On February 9, 1854, he was paid for two beeves he had furnished the army in 1842 and signed the warrant in person but did not indicate his residence. Lewis died in 1867. He had been involved in a dispute over land in Marion County, which was resolved by the Texas Supreme Court in 1875.
