LYNDON B. JOHNSON NATIONAL HISTORICAL PARK. The Lyndon B. Johnson National Historical Park, which commemorates the life and career of Lyndon Baines Johnson,qv is administered by the National Park Service of the United States Department of the Interior. It consists of two units fifteen miles apart. The smaller of the two sites, which is in Johnson City, Blanco County, includes Johnson's boyhood home and the Johnson Settlement, a historical interpretive center. The other unit is at the LBJ Ranch off U.S. Highway 290 fourteen miles west of Johnson City in Gillespie County, adjacent to the Lyndon B. Johnson State Historical Park.qv It features Johnson's birthplace, his ranch, the Texas White House, the old Junction School that he attended as a boy, and the Johnson Family Cemetery. Together the two sites cover 554 acres. The park was established on December 2, 1969. In 1990 it had 193,066 visitors. In the 1990s National Park Service bus tours starting at LBJ State Historical Park took visitors on a tour of the LBJ Ranch; the tour included Johnson's birthplace, his old school, the family cemetery, and the exterior of the Texas White House.
