LAS MORAS CREEK
(Kinney County). Las Moras Creek rises on the northern
foot of Las Moras Mountain, five miles northeast of Brackettville
in central Kinney County (at 29°22' N, 100°23' W)
and runs southwest for forty miles, through Las Moras Springs
at Brackettville, to its mouth on the Rio Grande, five miles northwest
of Quemado in far northwestern Maverick County (at 29°00' N,
100°39' W). Around the creek's mouth flat terrain with
locally shallow depressions is surfaced by sand, gravel, and mud
that supports water-tolerant hardwoods, conifers, and various
grasses. The creek then runs through a steep to gently sloping
terrain where scrub brush and various grasses grow. The mouth
is surrounded by rolling prairie with oak, juniper, and a variety
of grasses.
