LITTLE ELM CREEK (Grayson County). Little Elm Creek rises 1½ miles northwest of Dorchester in central Grayson County (at 33°33' N, 96°43' W) and runs southwest for thirty-three miles to its mouth (at 33°08' N, 96°57' W) on the Garza-Little Elm Reservoir 7½ miles east of Aubrey in northeastern Denton County. Three tributaries are Walnut Fork, Clarks Branch, and Pecan Creek. The stream, which is intermittent in its upper reaches, traverses flat to rolling prairie that is surfaced by deep to shallow expansive clays, clay loams, and dark, commonly calcareous clays. Local vegetation includes oak, juniper, mesquite, and various grasses. The area has served as range and crop land.
