LIVE OAK CREEK (Gillespie County). Live Oak (Liveoak) Creek rises one mile northwest of Weinheimer Road in central Gillespie County (at 30°21' N, 99°02' W). Intermittent in its upper reaches, the stream runs southeast for fifteen miles to its mouth on the Pedernales River, a mile south of Lady Bird Johnson Park, a Fredericksburg park (at 30°13' N, 98°54' W). Rising in limestone hills on the eastern edge of the Edwards Plateau, the creek crosses an area characterized by flat to rolling terrain and soils ranging from shallow stony and clayey soil to deeper sandy and clayey loams. Vegetation consists primarily of brush, grasses, and open stands of live oak, Ashe juniper, and mesquite.
