LANGFORD BRANCH. Langford Branch rises in the western corner of Coryell County (at 31°26' N, 98°09' W) three miles south of Evant and runs northeast ten miles to its mouth (at 31°30' N, 98°03' W) on Cowhouse Creek, six miles northwest of Purmela. The rolling prairie has occasional steep slopes and benches and is surfaced by shallow clay loam that supports oak, juniper, and grasses. The creek was named for Asa Langford, who in the mid-1850s owned the land where the community of Evant now stands.
