MANGOLD, ANNA HONECK (ca. 1869-1947). Anna Honeck Mangold, businesswoman and civic leader, was born in Herman, Missouri, around 1869. In 1888 she moved to Dallas and the following year married Charles A. Mangold, a liquor wholesaler who had moved to Dallas from Cincinnati a few years earlier. The Mangolds became prominent civic and commercial leaders in Dallas. Two of their special interests were the State Fair of Texasqv and construction of the Houston Street viaduct over the Trinity River to keep Dallas and Oak Cliff connected during floods. In 1906 the Mangolds established Lake Cliff Park and Lake Cliff Casino. In 1918 they built the Jefferson Hotel in downtown Dallas. After her husband's death in 1934, Anna Mangold maintained holdings in numerous hotels, laundries, and banks, as well as extensive ranch and oil properties near Wichita Falls. She died in Dallas on September 1, 1947. She was survived by two sons and two daughters.
