MCCONNELL, THOMAS (1807-1844). Thomas McConnell, a merchant and Republic of Texas congressman, was born in Ohio in 1807 and moved to Texas from Portsmouth, Ohio, in 1840. He lived at Victoria until his home was destroyed in the Linnville Raid of 1840, when he became a proprietor and founder of the town of La Vaca (now Port Lavaca). In 1841-42 he represented Victoria County in the Sixth Congress of the Republic of Texas. He died in 1844.
