MITCHELL, WARREN JORDAN (?-1836). Warren Jordan Mitchell, a doctor from Columbus, Georgia, entered Texas with the Georgia Battalion, which arrived late in December 1835. On December 24 William Ward^qv appointed him surgeon of the battalion, and on December 25 Mitchell, as regimental surgeon, offered James W. Fannin, Jr., the services of the battalion. On February 7 at Refugio Mitchell was chosen major of the battalion to replace Ward, who became lieutenant of the regiment. Mitchell was captured after the battle of Coleto and killed in the Goliad Massacre on March 27, 1836. His brother, Edwin T. Mitchell, died at the Alamo.
