MONAHANS SANDHILLS STATE PARK. Monahans Sandhills State Park is on Park Road 41 near Interstate Highway 20 in northeast Ward and southeast Winkler counties, six miles northeast of Monahans. It comprises 3,840 acres of sand dunes that are a part of a dune field stretching north into New Mexico. The park officially opened on November 23, 1957, and is operated by the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department.qv It has a museum containing historical and prehistorical artifacts, as well as camping and recreation facilities.
