Most residents were employed in Gatesville or Fort Hood, and the others operated or worked on nearby farms and ranches. The original community, before it was absorbed into Gatesville, consisted of little more than a church, a school, and residences. By 1974 the number of residents had risen to 300. The population remained the same through 2000.
