MIDWAY, TEXAS (Lubbock County). Midway is four miles north of Yellow House Canyon, two miles east of the Crosby county line, and ten miles northeast of Slaton in southeast Lubbock County. It grew near the McClung school, one of twenty-six county rural school districts in the mid-1920s. Early residents of the area included the Hancock, Neal, Winifred, Reynolds, and Reasoner families. In 1935 McClung school was consolidated with those of Acuff and Canyon to form the Roosevelt Rural School District. Although a store has intermittently operated in Midway in past years, the only business in 1984 was the McClung Co-Op Gin, which processed 7,500 bales of cotton that year.
