MAYSFIELD CREEK. Maysfield Creek rises eight miles northeast of Cameron in northern Milam County (at 30°57' N, 96°54' W). It runs southeast for eleven miles to its mouth on the Little River, four miles southeast of the Maysfield community (at 30°51' N, 96°50' W). The generally flat to rolling terrain in the area is surfaced by clay and sandy loams that support mesquite and grasses in the upper reaches of the creek. Pecans, willows, water-tolerant hardwoods, and conifers are found nearer the mouth. The creek was named for Thomas Newton Mayes, who settled in the area in 1853.
