MACKINALLY CREEK. MacKinally Creek rises nine miles south of Brownwood and just east of State Highway 45 in southeastern Brown County (at 31°36' N, 98°57' W) and runs east for seven miles to its mouth on Pecan Bayou, near Horseshoe Bend (at 31°36' N, 98°51' W). In its upper reaches the stream traverses variable terrain with shallow to deep sandy clay loams that support various grasses and oak, juniper, and elm trees. Later in its course the creek enters an area of rolling hills with clay and sandy loams that support scrub brush, cacti, grasses, mesquite, live oak, and juniper. The McAnnallys were early settlers who received land grants in southeastern Brown County; the creek was presumably named for them.
