NACOGDOCHES TEXAS REPUBLICAN. The Nacogdoches Texas Republican was printed on August 14, 1819, by the Long expedition.^qv Horatio Bigelowqv was editor and Eli Harris^qv printer of the paper, which stated the amount of land and pay offered volunteers for James Long's^qv army. The paper is considered the earliest paper published in Texas for which records exist in contemporary St. Louis and New Orleans papers. How many issues of the Republican were printed is not known, but sources indicate that it had discontinued publication by September 1819.
