NAIL, JAMES H. (1856-1928). James H. Nail, rancher and cattle raiser, the son of William N. Nail, was born in Fannin County, Texas, on March 26, 1856. He was educated in the public schools and became a rancher and cattle raiser. He shipped his first cattle from Denison to Chicago in 1873. In 1880, after Fannin County was too thickly settled for range operations, he moved his cattle to Indian Territory but returned to Texas after the territory was opened to settlement. He purchased ranchland totaling 100,000 acres in Shackelford, Mitchell, Midland, and Martin counties. Nail married Chloe A. Black on September 13, 1893; they became the parents of two children. He was a director of the Federal Reserve Bank of Dallas.^qv Nail died at his home in Fort Worth on August 2, 1928.
