NEBO, TEXAS (Cherokee County). Nebo was off Farm Road 346 thirty miles northwest of Rusk in northwestern Cherokee County. It was established around the time of the Civil War. A post office opened there in 1880, and by 1885 the community had a steam gristmill, a cotton gin, two churches, a district school, and an estimated sixty residents. The population reached 150 by 1892, but the community evidently declined after 1900. The post office closed in 1904, and by the mid-1930s Nebo no longer appeared on maps.
