PORT LAVACA STATE FISHING PIER. Port Lavaca State Fishing Pier is on State Highway 35 at Lavaca Bay in Calhoun County. The centerpiece of the 1.8-acre park is a 3,200-foot fishing pier, which formerly served as a causeway across the bay. The state highway department built another bridge across the bay in the early 1960s and in 1963 transferred the old bridge to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, which now operates it as a leased concession. Port Lavaca City Park is at the base of the pier and offers a boat ramp and picnicking facilities.
