PROSPECT, TEXAS (Clay County). Prospect, a rural community in extreme southern Clay County, twenty-four miles south of Henrietta, the county seat, on State Highway 148, was established during the early 1880s. The settlement served as a trade center for local farmers and ranchers. A post office began operations there in 1893. Twenty people lived in Prospect during the 1930s and 1940s, during which time its businesses declined from two to one. The post office closed sometime after 1930.
