PECAN CREEK (Grayson County). Pecan Creek rises in southwestern Grayson County (at 33°25' N, 96°53' W). Intermittent in its upper reaches, the creek flows in a southerly direction for seventeen miles to its mouth on Little Elm Creek in Denton County (at 33°15' N, 96°56' W). In 1959 part of the creek was cleared, straightened, and given concrete bottoms and sides to become part of a new sewage plant built by the city of Denton. Pecan Creek is located in the Blackland Prairie region of north central Texas, which contains slightly acidic soils with loamy surface layers and cracking clayey sublayers. These soils support crops and mixed grasses, some of which result from the clearing of woody vegetation.
