PAINT CREEK
(Jones County). Paint Creek, also known as Oteys Creek, rises
five miles northwest of Hamlin in extreme northwestern Jones County
(at 32°56' N, 100°02' W) and runs for a total of fifty-three
miles, first in a northeastern direction, passing through the
southeastern corner of Stonewall County and the southwestern corner
of Haskell County, and then turning southeast before reaching
its mouth on the Clear Fork of the Brazos River, four miles west
of Reynolds Bend in southwestern Throckmorton County (at 33°03'
N, 99°22' W). The creek is intermittent in its upper reaches.
Its tributaries include Flat Paint, Turkey Paint, Red Paint, and
North Paint creeks. The local terrain is variable and is surfaced
by soils that support mesquite, grasses, scrub brush, oak, and
juniper.
