PAINT GAP. Paint Gap is a pass (at 29°22' N, 103°18' W) five miles northwest of Panther Junction in Big Bend National Park in south central Brewster County. The pass is five miles wide, separating the Chisos Mountains to the south and the Paint Gap Hills to the north. Elevations in Paint Gap vary from 3,550 to 3,650 feet above sea level. The local soils are variable and support scrub brush and sparse grasses. The park road from Panther Junction to the Maverick Ranger Station passes through Paint Gap.
