QUAPAW INDIANS. The Quapaw Indians, a southwestern Siouian group, originally settled in the area of present Arkansas, but in 1828 about 150 families were reported on a tributary of the Red River in Texas. The Quapaws were signers of the treaty of February 23, 1836, at the conference at the Cherokee village of Chief Bowl,^qv and of the treaty of December 10, 1850, with the United States made near the San Saba.
