QUAPAW INDIANS. The Quapaw Indians, a southwestern Siouian group, originally settled in the area of present Arkansas, but in 1828 about 150 families were reported on a tributary of the Red River in Texas. The Quapaws were signers of the treaty of February 23, 1836, at the conference at the Cherokee village of Chief Bowl, and of the treaty of December 10, 1850, with the United States made near the San Saba.
