QUAPAW CREEK.
Quapaw Creek rises (at 32°30' N, 94°14' W) in southeastern
Harrison County three miles southeast of Scottsville and runs
southwest for 10½ miles through southeastern Harrison County
to its mouth (at 32°24' N, 94°19' W) on Eight Mile Creek,
eight miles southeast of Marshall. The stream is intermittent
in its upper reaches. Its main tributary is Turkey Creek. Quapaw
Creek was probably named for the Quapaw Indians, who lived in
the area in the first half of the 1800s. The local gently undulating
to rolling terrain is surfaced by loams and clays that support
pine and hardwood trees in places. The land is used predominantly
for agriculture.
